Mark Zuckerberg Learns to Braid Daughter’s Hair Using AI-Powered Smart Glasses

In a bold move to promote Meta’s new Smart Glasses Collection in collaboration with Ray-Ban, Mark Zuckerberg has taken an unconventional approach: he has harnessed the power of AI to learn how to braid his daughter’s hair.

In a video posted on Instagram, Zuckerberg captures the back of his daughter’s head while wearing the smart glasses equipped with a video recording feature. He initiates the process by saying, “Hey Meta, how do you make a braid?” A voice from the glasses then guides him through three steps: brushing the hair, dividing it into three sections, crossing the right section over the middle, followed by the left section, and continuing the process.

His struggle to tie the end of the braid reveals that he is not experienced in hairstyling (Zuckerberg has three daughters). As a final step, he instructs the glasses to take a photo of his handiwork and send it to his wife, Priscilla, who is likely engaged in managing the couple’s charitable organization, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

If the intention of the video was to demonstrate how Meta’s Smart Glasses could be seamlessly integrated into everyday life, it falls somewhat short. Meta AI does not appear significantly more useful or convenient than existing digital assistants like Siri and Alexa.

Moreover, the photo Zuckerberg sent to his wife could have been taken with a smartphone and sent via a text message in just a few additional seconds, without the hands-free assistance of the glasses.

A more compelling use case for the Smart Glasses might involve Zuckerberg baking in the kitchen while his infant daughter naps nearby. Instead of calling out to Alexa or Siri, he quietly asks Meta AI for assistance with ingredient measurements. Success! The baby remains undisturbed.

As he scoops sticky cookie dough onto a baking sheet, Zuckerberg requests the Smart Glasses to capture an image of the cookie dollops and send it to Priscilla, along with the message, “Are these the right size?” While the cookies bake, Zuckerberg instructs the glasses to play music from Spotify. The glasses’ open design allows him to enjoy music without waking the baby or missing her needs when she awakens.

In a demonstration like this, the glasses could appear more appealing and useful. However, Zuckerberg’s video portrayal makes them seem like a gadget your father might order from Amazon to experiment with during retirement – a very #girldad move, if you ask us.
