The Beatles song: Now and Then finally will be released thanks to AI technology

The Beatles are set to release “Now and Then,” a highly anticipated track featuring all four members. This release has been made possible through advanced AI technology, the same used in Peter Jackson’s documentary “Get Back.”

Paul McCartney expressed his excitement, stating, “Hearing John’s voice so clearly was emotional. This is a genuine Beatles recording. Releasing a new Beatles song in 2023 that the public hasn’t heard is truly thrilling.”

“Now and Then” was penned and vocalized by John Lennon in the late 1970s at his Dakota building residence in New York. In 1994, Yoko Ono handed over a cassette to McCartney, labeled “For Paul,” which also contained Lennon’s demos for “Free As a Bird” and “Real Love.”

Although the other songs were finalized and released by McCartney, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison as part of the Beatles Anthology, “Now and Then” faced technical challenges. The inability to separate Lennon’s vocals and piano from the track led to its shelving.

Decades later, Jackson utilized AI software to enhance the original audio from the Beatles’ 1970 “Let It Be” recording sessions. This technology was pivotal in creating the “Get Back” documentary series. Inspired by this, the surviving Beatles members decided to revisit “Now and Then.” Jackson and sound expert Emile de la Rey employed the same method to isolate Lennon’s vocals from the piano track.

Ringo Starr shared his sentiments, saying, “It felt like John was right there with us. It was a deeply emotional experience. It’s surreal.”

Both McCartney and Starr have added new elements to the song, incorporating guitar parts by Harrison from 1995 and a string arrangement by McCartney, Giles Martin, and Ben Foster. Original backing vocals from tracks like “Here, There and Everywhere,” “Eleanor Rigby,” and “Because” have been integrated into the new song, with Jeff Lynne providing additional production.
