A recently discovered ancient coin from Hampshire has garnered a staggering £20,000 at a recent auction event.

This gold relic, originating from around 50 BC and smaller than a fingernail, bears the inscription of Esunertos, an uncharted Iron Age King.

Lewis Fudge, the detectorist, stumbled upon this invaluable piece, now hailed by connoisseurs as “a monumental find of recent times.”

After securing permission, he unearthed this treasure from a local farmer’s field in March. Initially, experts from Spink, a renowned London auction house, estimated its value at approximately £4,000.

Yet, as bids poured in, the coin’s value skyrocketed to an impressive £20,400, inclusive of premium.

This surpassed the previous record for a similar coin, the ‘Medusa’ Quarter-Stater, which stood at £10,800.
